The following is verbatim from the Fall 2008 Beaver Brook newsletter, The Log. The notes were written by Glenn Lloyd, Trail Maintainer
As of this writing Summer is upon us, National Trails Day is behind us and lush plant growth is doing its annual best to narrow the trails. The trails remain relatively dry despite some heavy rain and fortunately no new erosion has been reported.
Sincere thanks to Beth Flagler, Alan Sauve and Chris Lalmonde for their assistance as follows: Beth has agreed to adopt and maintain our trail network in Milford. Chris has retired from maintaining on Nichols Trail due to other work commitments. He helped to construct the trail and has maintained it in excellent condition since its inception. Alan, maintainer for Jason's Cutoff, has agreed to adopt the adjoining trail.
Kibby's Climb was the sole focus of Naitonal Trails Day hosted by Pete Smith on June 7, 2008. Kibbys was a short trail with an abrupt end at Ridge Road and a large, wet drainage area impacting its center section. Kibby's has been in a three-stage transition since June, 2006 and is now a longer, more interesting single-track trail incorporating ridge lines, better views, a near continuous upward climb befitting its name and an overlook. On June 13, 2006 a connector to Howe Meadow Trail was completed at the South end to create a loop allowing hikers the option to avoid Ridge Road. On August 11, 2006 a re-route around the large wet area was completed using a ridge line as the by-pass. Finally, on June 7, 2008 the more scenic route and overlook were completed. Thanks again to Dave Anderson, Adrienne Adams, Akira Yamamoto, Ann Karcich, Beth Flagler, Rick Kierstead and Kim Colson for helping to complete this National Trails Day project.
In keeping with tradition New Hampshire Trails Day was observed at Burns Farm in Milford on Saturday, July 26. Projects will be highlighted in the next edition of the Log.
We currently have a full complement of Maintainers and Monitors covering the trails. However, anyone interested in volunteering for these activities should contact the Beaver Brook office at (603) 465-7787. We will contact you as new opportunities arise.
